I live in a very rural area. We can't even get high speed out here. The best we can get is satellite.in order to save some money, I called Vonage to see if we were compatible and if we could save some money. The gentleman I spoke to must have taken the Evelyn Wood Speed Talking course as I had to ask him to slow down or to STOP, several times. He assured me that Hughes Net was VERY compatible with Vonage and so I signed up. There were NO disconnect fees mentioned, only a 39.99 fee for equipment which I was told I would receive in a few days. (it's 7 days later and I still have nothing). And I was told if I decided to cancel wihtin 50 days, the 39.99 would be refunded to me. Anyway, within 12 hours, I called back to cancel and was told I COULDN'T as my equipment might be in transit but there was no way to check if it had even gone out. CAN YOU IMAGINE? Anyway, I called Vonage every day to make sure my phone service was not being switched and every day I was assured that it wasn't. Four days later (Friday) I went to make a call and phone my regular service had been shut off! I have a VERY sick child and I myself am sick and hook up to life support system at night. We have no cell service where I am either. At 8 A.M. I began calling my regular phone company and was told that Vonage had high-jacked my number! It took me until 5:55 (NO, I am not kidding) that evening, making calls from a Post Office parking lot from a cell phone I had to purchase just to do this to get my service turned back on. I HAVE HAD THE SAME # for 12 years until now! I had to have a new # because, of course, Vonage had already high-jacked mine. Well, here it is MOnday and I spoke with Denise who just kept talking over me... Yes, they are SO god at saying "I am sorry", but they do NOTHING to help you. You told me that I would be charged 39.99 plus a 50.00 something disconnect fee!!! That would be reimbursed after they get the equipment back that I still have not received!!! She was arrogant and did nothing to help me. Yes, she said she UNDERSTOOD my problem, but I would have to pay the fees anyway. She offered to put my order on hold until something opened up in my area that would allow me to use VONAGE! ERGH!
This company is NO GOOD they just want your money. Nothing more. PLEASE, if you care about your phone and your money, NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. Ever. I don't know what will happen yet, but I will call the Atty General's Office and anyone else I can until this company is stopped. They are bogus.
