Ruby Tuesday
Absolutely Horrid Treatment of Employees

My entire problem with this company started when I began college and felt it would be a nice thing to have a part-time job to have extra pocket money, and to keep the parental bumming to a minimum. So, I see that Ruby Tuesday is hiring. I having never worked in a restaurant think about it and come to the conclusion of "it isn't what I would really like to be doing with my time, but money is always nice and it isn't like I will be working all that much being a student and what not." At this point I've come to realize that I was greatly deceived by this idea.

I finally went in and applied after applying at other places around town and I was surprised that after filling out the application and handing it to the hostess that she went and got one of the managers and had him talk to me. I was rather happy with that because other places had just said things along the lines of "come back later and maybe we will talk etc." So the manager produces a card with a number for me to go home and take a Gallup poll survey thing, and tells me to come back in a few days. I do, and them I'm given another interview in which I talk to another manager and they set me up for an orientation type thing after giving me a "store tour." I take the job and then I'm assigned my area in the restaurant. I'm made one of the hosts. At first everything was fine. This feeling slowly went away the more I got to know about the way things were. The first instance of employee abuse for me was when I was scheduled as the only host on Mother's Day. No big deal, I'd been doing it long enough that everything went smoothly, but it was later that the problem came in. Now the way the host at Ruby Tuesday is paid is the store pays you a whopping three dollars per hour and the waitress give you 1.5 percent of the stores total take. So on Mothers day I was supposed to get the entire "tipout" amount. I was told this at the beginning of the day. It didn't happen. One of the managers to cover her own mess up went back into the computer and changed around hours and positions people were clocked in as and took over sixty dollars from what I should have made. I still to this day don't really know where my money went. I brought this to their attention and they said they would fix it... Sure they would. Like I said before, I still have no clue where that money went. So I like an idiot say nothing else about it and let it slide. Some more time passed and I finally found out that they had been lying to me about my rate of pay the entire time. I in fact had not been making my king's ransom of three dollars per hour but in fact had been making two dollars and thirteen cents per hour. This needless to say made me rather angry, but being the nice guy I am I let it slide, thinking well I'm going to start looking for a new job.

I start my job search, but refusing to quit until I had found another job because I needed the money because books can be expensive. They during this time started changing the company wanting to give a more five star appeal to things.By this all they do is raise the already outrageous prices for their food that most of which comes from a microwave anyway. They also don't have prices for alcoholic drinks in the menu so the customer is surprised when they get the bill to find that they have been charged six or seven dollars a glass for a wine that they could pick up at the grocery store for ten sixty nine. I know this for a fact, I looked at wine at the grocery store and thought it was funny how ripped off people were when they ordered wine. They also introduced a new position to the company. This being the QSS (quality service specialist) in real world terms the busboy. On one night while I was at home studying for a Biology test I had the next day my phone rings and I pick up. It's work they need me to come in for just a little while they tell me it will be no more than three hours. So I agree to do it sense no one else would answer their phone. I come in and am clocked in as the QSS and instead of staying for the said three hours I end up staying until a little after 1 A.M.

Needless to say this is not a company that anyone should have to work for and they are gradually running themselves into the ground. I can honestly say that if people knew that half of the food they were paying fifteen or more dollars for came straight from a microwave they would also stop eating there. I just feel that if anyone else reads this that it can at least shed some light on what goes on in that total hell-hole of a company. The store I worked at wouldn't even hire black people because they didn't feel that they fit the image of the company. They won't admit it, but one of the managers who finally quit because he was tired of the crooked stuff that went on told all of the employees about some of the stuff that he was told to do and what not. It was honestly rather shocking.
