I am a red blooded American citizen and a small business owner who works hard everyday for what money I do have. I thought I would expand our business. I decided to apply for a grant and thought, wow, what a great idea to benefit small businesses.
I never applied for a grant before and just like any other business owners; why not try to get assistance if it is available.
I submitted several grant applications on line to several entities and I received a response from Capital Funding Programs. I thought this was awesome and it seemed so legit. They had a web site, a money back guarantee, and they even had a Confidentiality Notice at the bottom of the email.
I sent $419.00 that was supposed to be used for the underwriting fees. The gentlemen, by the name of Steve Jackson, who contacted me was so helpful, with convincing instructions on how to assure we, as a small business would qualify to receive a free grant from $ $25,000 up to $ 150,000.
I sent the money via certified mail and called them as instructed with the tracking number. They provided me with file ID # and said that I would receive a package in 30 days from the date Capital Funding received the payment. I waited the 30 days with anticipation and when I never received the package, I kept trying to call, and email them but I never received a response. Today I did a search on the company and I was totally distraught.
I could not believe I would ever be a victim of fraud. What a farce. I still am in disbelief and hope that not too many other hardworking small business owners, such as me, fall into this trap. This upsets me and I feel terrible and ignorant. I will fight this as well. I am a small company, and we work hard every day to keep our business. I do not want other small business owners to be a victim of this crime.
