We were going to use Markay Johnson to build our home. After wasting time trying to put together a reasonable budget with his overpriced subcontractors, getting a late start, numerous building mistakes, then finally messing up the foundation pour, which then went over the agreed budget, we decided to fire him.
He then tried to overcharge us for what had been done incorrectly. He never provided invoices on one of the subcontractors he claimed we owed $4500, even though that subcontractor had verbally told me that the amount she invoiced him was much less. He also billed us $20,000 for "overhead" and $7,000 on "supervision" on a project that had only got as far as the foundation, a project we did the excavation on ourselves, and which total subcontract costs were only around 50k.
Even though we promptly paid him for the invoices provided from the subcontractors, plus 15% overhead and profit on top of those costs, he did not pay the foundation sub-contractor as promised from the money we paid.
Now, he is suing us for hundreds of thousands of dollars, on a project he supervised for about a week.
