My problems with Lakepointe Residences began the day I moved in. The Riser Room located below my apartment would vibrate, rattle and shake everything loudly every hour. I made numerous complaints to the offce, being told that they all did that and that everyone just gets used to it - it was functioning normally. They would not adjust my rent and when I tried to get the manager to meet me at my apartment to come hear it, she was always conveniently too busy. I finally called the Lewisville Fire Department and shortly after, they discovered that there was a leak causing it. It took SIX months to get this remedied.
In the last months prior to moving out, my air conditioner stopped functioning FOUR times. Each time, I had to find somewhere else to stay because it was too hot and humid to endure. A staff member would later admit to me that they were waiting until I moved out to actually repair the problem. Meanwhile, after each "quick fix" stopped working, my a/c would run uselessly non-stop all day while I was at work, doing a number on my electric bill.
Despite all that, I treated them in a business like manner. Despite horrible frustrations with the place I was paying to live in, I never got angry or yelled at them. The end was in sight and I just wanted to move out.
So that time came. I turned in my keys as well as two containers of paint a week early to a staff member on a Sunday. I requested a walkthrough, which she refused because she was the only office member present. I asked then, since I was turning them in early, if they would call me if there was anything that might keep me from getting my deposit back. I had done hard work cleaning that apartment, but I also wanted my money back. She stated that she would place a note in my file to call me in that case. I asked if there was anything to sign to finalize my move out and she said no. Call me naive, I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thanked her for her time, and left Lakepointe Residences.
Next thing I know, I get an invoice in the mail for $94 (of which they would deduct the $50 deposit they already had). I was met with lies stating that I had put my keys in the night drop and had requested no walkthrough. I was charged $75 for a cleaning that they only pay a vendor $60 to conduct (my attorney requested a copy of this document). I was charged $14 to replace stove drip pans, when the charge sheet I signed upon move in stated that such replacement only cost $10 and despite the fact that nowhere in the lease does it state that they require replacement, but that they do allot for normal wear and tear.
The manager's letters to my attorney included completely conflicting statements from one document to the next. For instance, one stated I never requested a walkthrough, another stated I did, but was told to schedule it. Apparently there was some difficulty in keeping the story straight. Ultimately, I sent them a check because they threatened sending it to collections, and quite frankly, they are not worth further hassle in having to deal with credit report issues. I am sure they can count on the fact that it is costlier to pursue than it is to just pay them off, which truly is quite sad.
There is trouble in this management office. They have difficulty being honest and being true to their word. They conveniently "forget." They will over charge you, despite signed contracts. This is a horribly run property that I wish I had never moved into.
