Upon my purchase of a new home and my leaving North Park Estates Apartment Complex located on Deerfield Parkway, I feel I have been taken advantage off.
When I moved in, I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment, I signed a 6 month lease and at the end of that lease the apartment complex increased my rent but I signed another 6 months while contracting to buy a house. When I moved out at the end of the lease on a Friday afternoon, I was told there was no one available to do the "walk through" and inspect the apartment. I was reluctant to leave without a inspection but I was told it would be ok and to go ahead and turn in my keys. As I did not want to be charged any additional days for not turning in my keys or to be held in violation of my "notice to vacate" and be bound to another full month, I reluctantly turned them in. 3 months later I get a bill for 1220.00 from a collection agency.
I call the apartment complex to find out what the charges stem from and am told that they had to replace the carpet, replace the countertop, and clean the apartment PLUS the pro-rated rent. I do not agree with the replacement of carpet, replacement of countertop nor the cleaning of the apartment. The carpet was old when I moved in, and in the same condition when I moved out. There was no problem with the counter top and they did not have to clean anything.
I had closed on my house on the 13th of May and had everything packed by professional movers and in the moving truck moved into my new house on the 14th, I contracted a cleaning service to come into the empty apartment and clean everything required by the apartment complex. Upon my paying the cleaning service I walked through the apartment myself inspecting everything. The carpet was clean and vacuumed, the tubs in both bathrooms were spotless along with the floors, the kitchen cabinets were wiped down, the floors in the laundry room and kitchen were clean and mopped.
When I called them to dispute all of these charges, it took 2 days for the apartment manager "Alisha" to call me back, then she continued to state that my apartment was filthy, and that the carpet and countertop was damaged, but yet she "Alisha" did not "walk through" the apartment with me NOR did any other employee "walk through" for final inspection with me to notate any discrepancies. I never recieved an itemized invoice from the apartment complex listing any issues that may have been found and suddenly I am faced with a collection agency bill.
I feel that these charges are just a way for the apartment complex to collect money for something that is not true
