Danger in the Classified ads Job seekers beware!

Danger in the Wanted Ad's

Before you start job-hunting, read this;

They come in all different areas and categories. They all have different store names. Different stories. But the outcome is always the same. They are scams, and if you do not educate yourself, you too can fall victim.

There are many out there, buts let's take one example. They are called Scentura Creations. You can compare them to Emodels or Primerica. But their treatment of employees is worse. The following is a true life story of one girls disillusioning encounter:

I was 17 years old, and it was just another day scouring the classifieds. I had been at it for a week with no luck so far. That's when I spotted it:

Attention: We need 15 people now!
No experience needed. We will train you for a
Management position. Up to 750.00 a week
during training.

Wow! Perfect. I picked up the phone and called.

California Designs answered the receptionist.

I told her why I was calling, and she scheduled me for an interview the next day. I showed up, and there was a room full of people there also. The Office Manager, Mark, came in and introduced himself. He talked about how he was looking for bright, motivated, go-getters who would be trained to open their own perfume store. After the presentation, he let us go and kept me and 2 other girls behind. I kept you here, because you are the cream of the crop he said.

We were hired then and there (along with everyone else we found out) and told that our first assignment would be to see if we could sell any bottles to our friends and family that night. I should back up and describe the office. It was a bare makeshift office with no real Lived in look Maybe one or 2 pictures, sporadic furniture, you get the picture.

The next day training started. As it was explained, we were to go out for the day (in our own cars, with our own gas money) and try to sell perfume. Anywhere we could. If there was a No Soliciting sign, we were to ignore it and go in anyways. For every bottle we sold, me made approx. 4-7$ from it. Here is the catch; even when we sold a bottle, we never got to see the money, it was put in a special account for us.

They also taught us little songs that were supposed to pump us up. Motivated, motivated, absolutely motivated, if you're not motivated, get the f*k out! They would chant. For those who actually sold some perfume, they were taken out on a satellite which they made seem like a big deal.

What's a satellite? Basically it is you, your manager, and a group of others. They take you to a far city, cram all of you into one motel room, and make you sell perfume in that city all night.

I could go onbut who needs to? You get the point. I left after a week, I never saw a dime of my money. I left because my parents made me. When I told my boss I quit, he told me my parents were being inconsiderate and ruining my future

As you can see, this company needs to be stopped. Yet, they thrive. Finding fresh, nave victims every week.

What can you do?

2 things. First of all, educate yourself. Become familiar with what the ads read like. They all have the same basic format. They are looking for multiple people, they promise quite a bit of money for no experience. Basically the ad reads like a dream job. If you are curious about an ad, call the number, Ask straight up if they are Scentura Creations. (they go under tons of different names) If they are not, ask whom the are exactly, and research it.

Secondly, let me know you are willing to fight. I am in the process of gathering what I can to take to the FTC. We need to unite to stop this madness.

By the way, the corporate office is in Atlanta, but the are international, and all over the USA.
