Eddie smith is our landlord, we just moved in. We are a young married couple with a one and two year old. The day we signed our lease it states that rent is due on the first we have too the fifth. After the fifth its a 10$ a day late fee. Our rent he said he was going to prorate since we signed the lease the 8th of march which would have made it 264.00. The original rent is 350.00. Well i get paid every two weeks so my check fell on the 10th of april, and i knew i was going to be stuck with late fees and that was fine. Two nights ago my 2 year old son was playing in his room and he comes out and hands something too my wife. She jumps up and screams murder!!! He had handed her a dead rat that had been there for some time its bones were starting too show. The night before we cleaned and never saw anything. So we knew then we had rats. So the next day we called the landlord and told him about the rat. He starts asking about the rent we told him it would be the 10th he said he could not wait. So while were waiting too find out what he was gonna do. We call back two days later and he tells us we have two choices! He said he could make the rent due on the 8th of every month that way we would have a 20 dollar late fee or pay 412.00 for what was suposed too be the prorate rent without changing the lease we? About the prorate he said he could not do cause we were late and that we would have too pay 380.00 dollars this month or 350.00 with the 50.00 late fees and 12.00 trash fee but i dont know how any of you guys would feel but i feel like its a big scam. But good thing i know all of the new landlord laws think twice before you rent this place. Its a farley nice place though hate too leave it.
