This "company" contacted me in August. I wasn't particularly interested in their magazine offer or "free" diamond watch. However, at that time, I had a hard time saying no. I "agreed" to pay for 3 magazines. My payment was to be 43.75 for 3 months at a time. I had another call today, informing me that I was eligible for another "free gift." In order to receive it, I had to pay at least 2 months at a time for 80 some dollars.
I attempted to cancel this subscription a couple of weeks ago and was told I was in a legal, binding contract and must pay the "agreed" upon rate. Not only have I been horribly screwed over, there was a serious breach of ethics.
When they called the first time, they told my boyfriend they were Publishers Clearing House. They did not tell me the total cost of the subscription, and they were not clear on terms and conditions and policy on cancellation, which I was told is impossible.
Also, when I called, they told me they could not cancel the subscription because they were pretty much the middle man. I asked how to cancel and they ran circles around me with no clear answer other than I'm screwed.
What kind of action can be taken against these jerks?
