Received a phone call from Mailbox Magazines stating I was in the final draw for a sweepstakes and that all I had to do was buy three magazines. Also they stated that one of the magazines would be Television Guide. I agreed to this and they said I must listen to a tape. Did not understand the tape and they did not play all of it either. Telemarketing person stated that I've won a watch and that the release form and accompaning paper will be arriving in about a week. Well when it did it said I had to pay $59.80 a month for four magazines and none of them were the Television Guide. Called them up to cancel and was told I could not cancel this subscription and that they had already prepaid for the magazines. I stated at know time on the tape did it say I could not cancel and that this was a ripoff. I immediately cancelled my credit card and made a fraud report on Mailbox Magazines. Never sent in release form for watch and told them that I refused to pay their company and would report them to the Better Business Bureau and anyone else who would listen. Called Clearing House to cancel subscription of magazines but they said that has to come from Mailbox Magazines. What is wrong with Publishing Clearing House? Will send them a certified letter to cancel my subscription as soon as possible and if need be will seek legal counselling. This is a major ripoff and this company should be shut down in a hurry.in this time when people are struggling to fend off Recession/Depression, Mailbox Magazine is praying on them.
