A fast-talking boy played on my heartstrings the month before Christmas. I agreed to purchase a magazine subscription from him so he could earn points to take an educational trip. Curiosity got the best of me, so I looked up company on the web and found many complaints. I sent a fax to company requesting they cancel my subscription because, as much as I wanted to help, I could not afford a $55 magazine subscription.
I stopped payment on the check and my bank did not pay when it was presented. Then, after Christmas, the company presented an electronic check for $80 for payment to my bank. It was not recognized as the same check I put the stop payment on, and was paid. I never authorized payment for $80 at any time!
The only number I have found available for this "company" is a fax number and they do not respond to faxes. My bank is investigating and are particularly interested in the fact that the electronic withdrawl was significantly more than the original $55 I wrote the check for.
