Richard Wagner in the sales division of the Independent Filmmakers Alliance, hires men and women to work "full-time" in sales. However, his idea of full-time is limited to 12 hours in one week.
If an employee does not make an advertising sale, which he calls "resourcing" instead of "advertising" (you can dress it up, but it is the same thing) then that employee is fired and cannot go back in to work. This is a telemarketing position, fyi, straight out of a phonebook.
Without ANY TRAINING offered, trying to make a sell to a COMPANY over the phone to place and ad for th place you work, without a clear understanding of what you do, is unprofessional, and pathetic.
But to make matters ultimately worse, a handicapped woman that Mr. Wagner hired came in on her first day. She couldn't just jump right into the work because she needed trainning. This is the conversation verbatum: She, "I can't do this without a little training."
He: "There is no trainning, just do it. Just pick up the phone and do it. Make a call, make a sale."
She: "But I'm hanicapped. I need a little bit of extra help."
He: "Then this just isn't for you."
She: "Well, I'm not saying that I don't want to do it, I just need some help."
He: "Nope, this just isn't for you. Thank you, you can leave now."
She: "But I just need..."
He: "Nope, goodbye, I'm signing you out for 1:00 [pm], goodbye!"
She: "But.."
He: "Thank you, goodbye..."
It made me feel sick. Mr. Wagner cannot just hire and fire whomever, whenever. I think this issue needs to be justified. If not for the men and women who can't get a sale within 12 hours without trainning, at least for the handicapped woman who was completely abused and tossed aside by Mr. Wagner.
