So-called "entry-level sales/marketing" postions posted on CareerBuilder, Jobdango, Monster, and other job postings for the Portland Metro area will probably turn out to be the "direct advertising" companies.
The job entails selling door-to-door, COMMISSION-ONLY, which they will not tell you. These companies "train" employees in their sales strategies, a few last long enough to set up their own office with a different name and start all over. Most people who've worked for them say that you work 12 hour days, every day.
The keywords in their job postings are:
"entry-level sales/marketing"
"100% promotion from within, 0% senority"
"paid training"
"performanced based compensation" (commission-only)
The place I went to for an interview, Hyphire Solutions, was at an office park in Portland, they are shortly moving to Tigard, so that address and phone probably won't work for long.
The trade mark of these companies is to schedule you for a short (15 minute) "preliminary interview" and call you back later for a longer (all day) interview. They will not tell you that you're interviewing for a door-to-door sales job, or that it's commission-only. Their hiring practices are misleading, their descriptions are evasive, and the job position is misrepresented.
If you want a pound-the-pavement, sell whatever they give you, commission-only sales job where you work 12 hours a day, every day, go ahead. But if they won't tell you specifically what the job is when they call to schedule and interview, hang up.
