I recently purchased multiple t-shirts through thinkgeek.com to the value of US$203.40 (AUS$277) and my credit card was immediately debited of that monies. Within 5 mminutes I had received an email from the company saying that they would not be sending the products unless I provided them with photos or photocopies of my credit card and statements to verify the billing address.
When I asserted my right to protect myself from potential fraud and not send such dangerous and personal material, I was told my order must be cancelled and reordered with a shipping address the same as the billing address. I immediately replied that I would be cancelling said order and in fact cancelled it within minutes of replying to the email. On the website I was assured that my credit card would not be charged but have since found a US$285 discrepancy on my statementm which shows they have taken the money before any of this supposed verification was to take place.
I am concerned for my money and other international customers monies that may have been taken and then given the run around by this company. As far as I am aware, and I have done multiple internet transactions for myself and friends with separate shipping addresses with this card, thinkgeek.com is the only company that requires such a dangerous and i think illegal way of verifying customers details.
Thank you for your time.
