Competetive Marketing Concepts
Shady company targeting recent college graduates ripopff

Do not interview with this company. They are the shadiest one out there in Austin that I have seen or heard about. They are all over the job boards, and every post seems to include "entry level account representatives" or "sports-minded people."

They at first may sound like a credible company, but once you look into it and/or interview, you will never be told what they actually do. I was suckered into an interview, being a recent college graduate that really needs a job.

In the first interview there were 5 other people in the waiting room, which right away was not a good sign. Most credible companies do not schedule back to back interviews, where they are herding the candidates in and out like cattle.

When I got to talk to Joe, the manager, he asked me about 10 questions about myself but told me NOTHING about what Competitive Marketing Company actually did, other than marketing and working with "prominent companies such as AT&T." I felt rushed through the entire interview and basically learned nothing about the company.

I was called the next day for a "second interview", and, ignoring my gut feeling and more importantly desperate for a job, I decided to go. Joe left me a voicemail simply telling me that I would be following around one of their employees for a few hours to get an idea of what the job is like, and would then continue on to a second interview. I was thinking that the employee would be making sales calls/meeting with clients.

I show up the next day and there are 5 other girls in the lobby there to do the same thing. They pair us up with their "sales reps" and tell us that we will be riding along with them for a few hours. I begin to realize this is not a "second interview" as much as it is a "job shadow."

It is not until after I get in the car with one of the reps that they tell me we are going to San Antonio, which is his territory. I know I should have refused right then, but keep in mind I am still thinking this may turn out to be not as bad as I think, and was interested to see what they actually do, since I am still kind of confused at this point.

I am not told until we show up at the first office building in San Antonio that Competetive Marketing Concepts SELLS OFFICE SUPPLIES. Out of a catalogue. That is all they do. They do not work with any other client but the office supplier.

I am furious and realize that I have been purposely mislead by Joe and everything else I have read about the job. I was stuck in San Antonio untill 5:00 that night, when I knew immediately that this job was not for me.

If I knew someone in San Antonio I would've called them and told me to come pick them up. It was complete hell. I felt very betrayed, not to mention lied to.

The worst thing about it is that the company makes it sound like an important job. I was told that many candidates were "dying to work here." It is horrible that they are preying on entry level college graduates who can't find work. So beware!
