On April 17, I visited Orr Mitsubishi (formerly Champion Mitsubishi) and was told that with the Diamond Option Plan I would have lower monthly payments than with a regular buy and if after 3 years I decided to buy another Mit. I wouldn't have to worry about the balloon payment that was at the end of my 54 month contract agreement.
There were also no mileage stipulations. I was told this by the sales person, the general sales manager, and the finance guy. They all went over it with me in great detail. My parents and my best friend were there with me and also heard every word they said. So now it's 2006 and about 2 weeks before my 3-year-bring-the-car-back-and-buy-another-Mitsubishi day.
So I call the dealership to touch bases with a sales person to see what incentives and so forth they're offering these days and, behold, no one knows what the hell I'm talking about. So I speak to the general sales manager (not the one that was there when I purchased my 2004 Endeavor) and he informed me that he knew that Mitsubishi customers were told that in the past but it wasn't true and there was nothing he could do except do a regular trade-in.
Okay, the purchase price on this SUV was $28,000 and I've been paying $500/mo for 3 years and my pay-off is still $20,000. Do they really expect me to be able to trade it in and be upside down $20,000? And, of course, there's nothing in the contract that stipulates the 3 year thing.
This is beyond misleading. It is a case of blatent lying from the entire staff at Orr Mitsubishi and they are unwilling to assume responsibility. From what I gather from the other postings on this site, I was not the only to fall prey to this Diamond Option Plan lie.
If anyone anyone has successfully gotten out of this Diamond Option Mess please let me know how you did it.
