To save myself some time, I decided to buy a year supply of Interceptor heartworm medication for my dogs from 1-800-Pet-Meds. After getting the requested prescription from my veterinarian at the time, I sent it via mail and recevied my supply in August.
I recently switched veterinarians, and on February 20th, I took one of my two dogs in for her yearly exam, one of which includes a heartworm test. I received a call today, February 22, that Lady has heartworm and will need to be treated.
This treatment will cost me $400 and required two months of keeping my dog inactive by placing her in a crate all day only to be let out to eat and go outside. It will double in expense to $800 if my other dog, Bailey, who is being tested soon, also has the disease.
I am extremely upset! I love my dogs and faithfully gave them their heartworm pills every month. I take them for regular check-ups to prevent something like this from happening. My current vet told me that I shouldn't order these meds online because of the lack of guarantee. Unfortunately, I was at another vet when I asked for the script, and he never cautioned me against it.
How can a company consider this good business? My dogs could die! I will make everyone I know never orders from PetMeds, and I will be canceling my account and make sure anyone else I know with an account cancels theirs.
