Ripoff! Home building experience from hell!

The nightmare began when we signed the contract and hasn't ended since we've moved in. DON'T BE FOOLED, IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THIS BUILDER - READ THIS FIRST!

Every day I see new problems with a house that is one month old. The tops and bottoms of our walls are wavy, paint (we were told it was "paint") on the walls is inconsistent and a complete mess throughout the whole house, the floor boards are pulling away from the walls, trim is separating, ceiling cracks, toe kick pulling off base and more creaks, bangs and squeaks when the wind blows than a house that's one hundred times older. I'm not remedial or anything and I do understand a new home will "settle" but this is ridiculous. Is the house still going to be standing when it's done "settling?"

Unfortunately that is just a small sampling of what we are dealing with. Just recently I summoned Rockford to look at all the water spilling into my garage from under the garage door when it rains. Their explanation "force of nature." From the amount of water I had in the garage the "force of nature" must have been left over Katrina remnants hovering over Columbus in January. Sounded like a good excuse, at least this one was not the same old industry standards stuff I've grown accustomed to hearing. But nevertheless EVEN IF Rockford would have assumed some type of responsibility for the water intrusion problem, I was informed they were not required to fix it due to the fact that the garage is an "uninhabitable space." This comment also tells me that if my warranty was a little bit "softer" it just might be good for something. I also can't recall being given a "price" adjustment for the garage being "uninhabitable space" when I purchased the home.

This is not my (nor should it be anyone's) expectation of a "new home. I'd like to see this kind of crappy workmanship in one of their "model" homes. Oh no, that might make you come to your senses before you sign that "one way" contract. Trust me, it is one way, there is nothing to protect the buyer.

I never thought building a home would be such a nightmare experience. Our whole objective in building was to get what "we" wanted. Not be told over and over until I could vomit that things have been finished and corrected to "industry standards." This is Rockford's famous excuse for sub-standard workmanship (and I use the term "workmanship" loosely.)

I did try contacting the owner of the company, Bob Yoakam, Jr. I thought possibly he may not be aware of how his namesake is being represented. Unfortunately, he did not seem to care about the problems with our home. He did not even respond to a letter we had "hand delivered" to him. So much for the company's core values of Quality, Trust and Value - nice sales gimmick. I also have complaints on file with other local and State agencies which have yet to be resolved.
