Lowballing Trade-Ins On Sale Vehicles ripoff

Please note that I DID NOT make a purchase. I just walked away; however I thought I would take a few minutes to warn potential customers about this disreputable technique.

I live in Tucson Arizona, approximately 120 miles from Scottsdale (a 2 hour drive one way). I had been looking for a "bare bones" Dodge 2500 with a Cummins Diesel and happened to find an ad on the Internet placed by Chapman Dodge advertising a sale or closeout of 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 SL Quad Cab w / Cummins Diesel at the very reasonable price of $27,848 (this was on Jan 21st so 2006 have been available for about 4-5 months).

I expected to arrive at the dealer only to find that they had "just sold" the last one (bait-n-switch); however I was pleasantly suprised to find that there was still one available. Before I went to the dealer I had ran various reports on my trade-in (a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab with the 4.7L V8) and had determined what I thought would be a reasonable value for my trade-in.

Please bear in mind that the LOWEST trade-in allowance quote received in Tucson towards either a new or used truck (including sale prices) was $11,500. The trade-in allowance presented from Chapman Dodge, $8,000. Yep only $8,000 for a four year old truck in excellent condition! Hmmmm, so THAT'S how Chapman Dodge can offer $7,487 in incentives and rebates. They can make up for it by offering almost NOTHING for your trade-in!
