Charges: Disability, Racial, Harassment and Intimidation Discrimination actions
On June 29th, Icalled the Avon Products Office, at 3636 16th Street NW Suite AG49, Washington, D.C., and asked to join this district office to sell Avon Products. I told them my daughter was my appointment maker. Took my entire application over the telephone.

Several Days passed and nobody had come to my residence to formally have me sign the paperwork, and give me my supplies. I continued to call the above addressed District until I got in touch with the District manager. The District Manager said she would be right over to give me my starter bag and to have me sign the contract. She also made a point to say that she would be the BLACK LADY. I have very proper diction, so I am assuming Maleka Green thought I was not of a minority race.

I had a cast on my left leg. The lady introduced herself and gave me the contract to sign. The Lady did ask for $10.00 and I said I would go up to my residence and get it. The Lady stated that said she was in a hurry and I might not be capable of moving quickly due to my health issue so she would just bill the $10.00 to my account. I was very insulted by that statement. I also asked The Lady for my account number. She stooped down and wrote is very big on the top of my contract instead of referencing to the fact that it was on the paper and pointing this out to me.

The District Manager did not sit down and talk with me about her district polices how to sell Avon products or anything like that. Shedid make a point to mention of back pains and that this was the worst pregnancy she had ever experienced. She also said she was in a hurry because her feet were swollen and she had to go to the doctor. She said she was happy that her children were in Louisiana with her Mother for the summer because this was too much running around for her in this heat.

The District Manager did ask what happened to my leg and I told her I injured it. She asked if I would be able to recruit customers and sell Avon products due to my health issues. I was shocked to hear such a statement once again. I said yes but reminded her that I will be starting slowly. Then she left after giving me a black mesh used looking Avon Bag. Never once did she sit down and go over ANYTHING inside the bag. The Lady did not tell me when the meetings would be or where they would be. She did not give me a New Avon representative pin, as all new representatives are suppose to get. She did not even say that I was entitled to one and that the pin would be arriving in the mail from the corporate office in a few weeks. As for the contents in the mesh bag and the starting instructions, She just assumed that I read English since I speak it and gave me everything. Then she said she had to go to a doctor's appointment for her pregnancy and left.

She only wanted the signed contract; the money and she wanted to question my health. I called back to the district office after the training session ended with my daughter and listened to the recording. I was able to retrieve the District office phone number and I did call and register an AGE DISCRIMINATION complaint with them against the District Manager. I also asked to have her boss, to call em so we could discuss this and it never happened. I had to file a complaint with the EEOC.
