So, I got a call from a "Manager" at Primerica who told me that he was calling to speak with me and find out if I would be interested in what his company had to offer me. I have applied to Citigroup in the past for unrelated jobs and my resume is also on some job boards. So I dont know which way they obtained it.
A red flag went up after he was evasive in answering some of my questions... Such as, "What is the job title of the position you are recruiting for?" This to me, would be a pretty easy question to answer, but somehow he scooted around it. Dispite this, I agreed to come to the "Corporate Overview" that evening dressed in "business attire."
When I got there I was put in a room to mingle with some of the "managers" and other people who were obviously there for the same "corporate overview." We were then wisked into a room and the presentations began. I thought it was kind of strange that they had the people who where there for the overview in the same room as the people who were looking to get help from Primerica. I noticed many of the other applicants did not appear to be dressed in business attire, and quite frankly I felt like I was probably one of the more educated people in the room.
The pitch was good, I will give them that. Very convincing. You leave thinking that this is a great opportunity... You can work your own hours, etc. HOWEVER, another red flag went up when they said you were required to pay for 200 dollars for each of 3 different licences that you need to be a financial planner. She said that they cost at least 1000 dollars on their own, but Primerica "picks the remainder up." You are required to attend 15 weeks of training... Twice a week for 2 hours at a time.
After the presentations, we were given a quick survey to fill out which basically asked us if we were interested and a few other easy questions.in the hallway were a bunch of managers waiting to sign you up for your next interview if you are interested. I figured that it couldnt hurt to find out more about it... So I scheduled an interview.
I called my husband on my way home and told him how things had played out. He said it sounded fishy and I did have a few red flags after all was said and done. So when I got home I did a bit of research on the company. The secound thing on Googld about primerica was this website. THANK GOD that I found it. 33 pages of complaints was enough to convince me that I do not want to go ANY further.
As a side note, it seems like they probably read this website because the way they operate is a bit different now. I received a pamphlet right before I left after scheduling the interview which contains the 6 "Local Personal References" which are mentioned in many of these complaints. I am so thankful that I did not give them money or peoples contact information. I wish there was a way to get the word out to he poor people who do not have the knowledge or ability to research the company on the internet!!!
