Hi, I am another victim of the RGA Reportage Leather Coat Scam, sure is a tough lesson to learn.
Pretty much much the same story as everyone else, Italian Accent, older Italian Guy, Italian Passport. Said he couldn't speak English very well.
He stopped me in the parking lot of my local grocery store and said he needed directions to the airport. He started with some small talk about being in town for a trade show and was on his way back to Italy. He said to come over to his vehicle and wanted to show me something. He started off by asking what size I was and said he wanted to give me a something for being nice to him. He had some leather jackets from the trade show he was to give them to a friend. But the friend had already left for San Francisco. He then showed me the leather jackets that were still in plastic bags and asked what I thought they were worth. He never took them out of the bags.
Boy he had me hook line and sinker at that point. I said something like oh I am sure they are worth quite alot. He went on to say he was at the Indian Casino the night before and lost lots of money and needed some money to buy his wife a present before he got home. So I could have the two leather jackets if I would buy this brown suede jacket for several hundred dollars.
Well stupid me thought I was getting a great deal. So I went in the store to get some cash out of the atm machine and he followed me in. I got the cash and gave him the money. We said our good byes and he hugged me and tried kiss me on the cheeks.
I then asked if he knew how to get to the airport and he oh yea just take that road over there. That should of been a big red flag, but I ignored it.
Well driving home it finally hit me, I was scamed big time. I wish my insticts would have kicked in earlier and wouldn't be out so much money. Sure enough when I got home and looked at the jackets I knew they were cheaply made and were bad designer knock offs. Plus they had a horrid odor coming from them.
Hope they can stop these crooks and there are no other inocent victims. This happened to me on November 8
