I was contacted on 7/18/05 at 6:30pm on my cell phone by a man with a very strong accent claming to be from the "American Grant Information Center". He stated that I was eligable to receive between $5000 and $25000 in grants from the government. I was immediately suspicous.
He went on to say that only "good tax paying citizens" were eligable for this grant. He explained that once I answer a few simple questions he would mail be informattion that had to be filled out and returned. Once the information was mailed back I would receive the "grant money" in the form of either a wire transfer into my bank account or a check.
He asked me if I paid my taxes on time and I said yes. He then proceded to have me verify my address and give him the name of my financial instition.
I asked why he needed the name of my bank. He stated that he needed to verify that the bank was nationally recognized. I told him that it was, but he insisted that I tell him the name anyway. Fearing that I had already given him to much inforamtion I hung up.
