I received a phone call from a telemarketer on Jun 24. The person told me Walmart was having a customer appreciation and that I would ne receiving a card to get 10% everything I buy at Walmart for 30 days. I was told I would not have to pay any thing or call anybody to cancel anything. I was also told I would not have to provide a credit card number.
The person then continues by offering various club memeberships. I am repeatedly told that I would not have to provide a credit card number. I vaguely remeber that the person siad if I want to cancel to call some number within a cetain timeframe. I don't remember what but figured since I hadn't given a credit card number I was okay.
When I checked my credit card activity on Jul 7, I saw a charge for $25 from Traveler Innovations dated Jun 30. I called and was told I had agreed to a membership on Jun 24. Apparently, I didn't have to give the telemarketer a credit card number since they already had it.
I cancelled the membership and requested my $25 back. I was told I could not get it back. I asked for a supervisor and was told that the supervisor would also tell me that I could not get my money back. After a big hassle with the customer service rep, I finally got a supervisor on the phone. She agreed to get the recording of the call from the telemarketere to determine if I agreed to the membership.
I will also dispute the charge with my credit card company. Even if I did agree to the membership, I should have been told that the company had my credit card number and how they got it.
