I graduated from college in december from a state university school in ny. I was planning on moving to denver colorado after graduation but thought abuot moving to charlotte first becuase it was closer then denver. I came down for a week with a friend and we both applied for jobs. I had applied for some jobs prior to visiting and had interviews set up. One was at Ashlin Inc and Perth Aquisitions. The office looked really nice and the people were good looking. I went in with my resume and spoke to the "manager" he asked me general questions and then told me that he would be doing call backs for people that have a second interview. And he'd be calling around 4pm. So I left thinking that it was a marketing job as he had told me for fortune five hundred companies like "Bell South" "Ebay" "Quill" and etc.
I went to a late lunch with my friend and he called me saying that I needed to go on a second interview tomorrow. I had planned on leaving that day to go back to NY. I changed my plans paid for an extra night at the hotel in order to go to this "second interview" I get there for the "interview" and they tell me that I am going to be going out with one of the employees for the day and that it was going to be a day long interview. There were two of us on the interview and the "leader." We took off to a small town called Hickory North Carolina. When we were in the car the "leader" asked us dumb questions like "what do you think the most effective forms of marketing are" and I said "tv and radio commercials" she said "no because I have DVR and can skip through commercials" i followed this with "that's why people spend so much money on tv commercials because they are effective" but anyways she didn't like that and proceeded to tell us that "face to face" marketing is the best form. I got a little nervous at this point
She did her best to prevent myself and the other guy in the car from talking to one another... After a while we went to lunch at an arby's and she broke down the pay and what not to us. It sounded good... She said she made 41k a year blah blah blah. We get back to the office take a "test" and then have a third interview when we find out we have the job. They wanted me to move from ny over the weekend and start on monday. I thought this was odd but a good chance so I did it, and lived in a hotel for a week until i had an apt ready. THey had told me i'd be paid for traning. But then i find out there was no paid traning and we would recieve a bounus as long as we were on time. So after working that whole week and not being allowed ot make any sales... It sucked. Then i find out that there is a business trip that next week and a "leader" would be taking out some girls for the trip (guys could only go on trips with guys and girls only with girls) so another new person and myself and a leader went on this trip, we stayed at a DAYS INN that was not nice and the leader had her own bed and us two new girls had to share... This was wierd. THey still tried preventing us new peole from talking to one another. Also my leader from the office kept calling and checking up on me.
I get my territory in this town and worked my right selling "Quill office supplies" to whomever would listen. One day that week my grandmother died and she was the closest person in my life to me. I was devestated and only had one "app" that day, i called the trip leader adn told her what happened and she asked me how many apps i had, and i said one, she said to park my car and she'd be right there to get me. She said that she would go to the doors and get me more sales, she forced me to go into a funeral home where there was a wake for an old lady, on the day of my grandmothers death and try to get a sale... I saw this as extreme heartlessness. After a sale couldn't be done she told me that i should have gotten more sales/apps. After going back to the hotel and just wanting to be alone, i had to go out to dinner and be social. This really bothered me. Then the next day the girl i started with got promoted to leadership and i was told that i didn't because i was consistent on my sales, that day i got enough apps and the following day from that i got promoted (friday). We got back from the roadtrip and to the main office and after walking in that door tired, not feeling well and angry i decided i would not be back. I returned my quill stuff and have yet to recieve a pay check. After getting my leader book i learned that they take measures to prevent the new peole from talking so they don't get ideas, and on sunday nights leaders are supposed to call their team members because over the weekend they could think about quitting. It was all deceptive and all very scammy. I am glad i only worked two weeks (only one week paid) i am glad i got out of there... They now owe me 1000 dollars from my commision, three pay periods have gone by. And now i hvae been dealing with cydcor to try and get my money... I am calling the attorney's general office, labor dept and bbb on monday. BEWARE and stay away... It is NEVER a good opportunity and it will only cause you more money and frustration!
