Resent college grads, be careful! Ripoff

If you're a resent college grad and/or having trouble finding a job, be careful! Don't fall the sales and marketing firm looking for entry-level candidates we can develop into managers. It's all a scam!!! Don't waste your time! They are mostly posted on internet job sites, such as monster.com and careerbuilder.com. Most of them have titles like Full Time Entry Level Sales and Marketing or Entry Level Account Managers.

The first interview
Is VERY brief, not even 10 mins. They don't explain what they really do or what your applying for. The interviewer will say that they have to interview others and if they think you fit the requirements, you be called for a second interview.

The second interview
will be out on the field with your Mentor (Leader; I'll explain the different levels later). My mentor / second interviewer was very nice, and asked more personal questions than interview ones, but nothing offensive. This is when they break it down, the management trainee program. You first start off in sales, work your way up to a leader, assistant manager, and management. My mentor told me, in order to manage sale persons you have to start of as one, which was understandable. He then pulls out this map and says that we work this territory at is 35 mins. Away from the office. We finally found some good territory and start walking door-to-door trying to sell or upgrade services of BellSouth. I'm thinking Door-to-door sales in the summer heat!? In my high heels..?! YEAH RIGHT We do this for about 30 mins. Then head back to the office, and in the car he kept talking about how good it is, and how much his gets paid. We get back to the office and I take a second interview questionnaire, which I knew I did bad on, because I made a bunch of stuff up. The manager says he's going to talk with my mentor and will make his decision about a third interview from there. He comes back with my mentor and to make a long story short, I was hire after only second interview and I really impressed them. My mentor walked to my car and told me how the manager rarely hires people after the second interview and how I must be fit the job. He tells me to come in the next day at 10am.

Training Day 1
You start off in the atmosphere room with the other employees. Everyone is all happy, cheering and playing music. They play a game, something like an icebreaker, and list their goals for the day it reminded me of a football team in the locker room before a game. After about 30 mins.in the atmosphere room, we're to off to our territory. On the way there, I asked how long are we going to be out there and my mentor tells me all day. Come to find out, the typical work day is from 11am 7pm out on the field (and 11am 4pm in Saturdays). About 2 hours in, going door to door, it starts to rain, So, I ask what do you do when it rains? My mentor tells me, you keep working.

As a part of my training I was given a script; five steps to a conversation, I had to learn and apply it 5 times before the end of the day.

After working from 11am 7:30 pm in the hot sun (and a little rain) we headed back to the office to the atmosphere room for a wrap up.in the wrap up you listed 3 things you learn, 3 goals for tomorrow and 3 steps to that goal. After that there were some brief meeting with each team and we could finally go home, when I looked at the clock it was 9pm!

PROs
- The people in the office were/seem very positive and goal oriented

CONs
- You work long hours in all types of weather conditions (Mon Fri 10am 9pm and Sat 10 5pm)
- You are not compensated for gas, miles on your car, or cell phone day mins.
- Lots of ambiguity

I'm SO glad I did further research on Cydcor, Multilevel Marketing (MLM) and pyramid scams.

All the things that seem shady to me all makes sense now. For example, one of things they stressed were how you had to work a full day, which was 10am -9pm. After walking around in the hot sun all day, you would more then likely go straight to sleep, leaving you no time for anything! That's how they isolate you Also, my mentor and other employees would say how people never under what we do, and that the corporate world is so bad.

I'm also glad I left after the first day!

Do your research and be careful!
