When I pick up the phone I was asked a few questions...
Not necessarily in this order:
Is this a business?
Is the name of the business %?
What is position did I hold? I told them secretary
They got me to answer 'yes' a number of times
What was my name? Like a dummy I told them...
Then I was told to hold for quality assurance.
Another person came on the line and asked me similar questions, always requiriing and 'yes' answer. The only question that was different was to ask me if I understood that this call was being recorded for quality assurance. I said 'yes' again and then they said thank you and hung up.
We now have a $ 398.99 bill from this company. I called today and listened to the tape they 'made' during my conversation and there was a whole new line saying something like "Do you understand that this is to authorize the invoice in the amount of $398.99, blah, blah blah...?" with me saying 'yes' at the end of this 'recording'! Instead of the original question they asked me at the end of the real conversation. They must have spliced it!!! I am just a secretary; I do not have any authority to authorize anything like this and NEVER would have.
They will not cancel their request for payment, but were extremely hostile, suggesting that I couldn't remember my conversation with them, etc. I asked for a copy of the tape and they said they would not send it. They are telling my employer that she MUST comply with the invoiced demand for payment, based on this 'tape' conversation with me...
