I am a guest service rep. For a hotel in Shallotte, NC. I checked in a guest on the 19th of January. Long story short he stole my wallet out of my purse and wrote checks to the Cracker Barrel in Wilmington and Jacksonville, NC. I don't know how a man could write and cash checks at two different Cracker Barrels on two different days in two different towns and no one noticed or asked for a driver's license when the checks belong to me (a woman with a woman's name). My DL number is on the checks as well. He managed to spend $383.62 in two days of my money at Cracker Barrel. Because of this I have had to close my checking account, file numerous police reports and go without any cash for over two weeks. I am a newlywed and he wiped my husband and myself out in an instant.
This all could have been avoided if the employees of Cracker Barrel had only followed the common procedure of asking for ID with a check. Especially because the amounts were so high!!! The sad thing is that Cracker Barrel was not the only place that he got away with this. He hit 3 other places but luckily enough my bank was able to catch those and refuse to pay them-but the guy still got whatever he bought with our money! Please don't end up like us! Keep your cash close and your checks closer.
