I reserved a Chrystler 200 M with left hand controls for pick-up at Ft Myers airport for a weeks vacation. My wife & I are both paraplegics confined to wheelchairs & that is the reason I reserved that vehicle 6 weeks prior to the rental, so we could fit both wheelchairs luggage into the car.
We called to verify the rental 24 hrs before like we were told & informed that it was a Ford Mustang. We spoke with 2 different managers & were told the vehicle could not be changed. The entire week in order to fit both wheelchairs I had to remove the wheels from 1 chair to make it fit in the trunk. This task limited the amount of times my wife was able to get in & out of the car because it caused a great deal of fatigue the more times I had to dis-assemble & assemble the chair on every stop we made. I am paralyzed from the shoulders down & lifting her heavy chair was extremely tiring.
I feel Hertz ruined our vacation that we spent an entire year saving for by switching vehicles at the last minute & not offering us another option. I filed a formal complaint with Hertz (File# HQ 0284/040) & was sent a $25 dollar coupon for our next rental. I returned the coupon saying it was an insult & never got a reply. If this is how they treat thier Gold club members I hate to see what the rest of the public experience.
