Interest of $640.89 Charged on Unpaid Best Buy Card Balance

I have a Best Buy charge card. I'm trying to pay the remaining balance they are charging me interest charge of 640.89 interest because it was not paid by 1-1. What should I do? My wife was out of work and now we are getting back on our feet but this ridiculous for this charge because they are just trying to get more money out of us and they will not defer the interest if this does not change we will never get caught up.
