Wal-Mart Pharmacy
WalMart Pharmacy Newton, Kansas

I have had several incidents with the Pharmacy Manager, Kelly Gish (Kansas Board of Pharmacy License 1-13176), at the Newton, Kansas Walmart (store 2428). Due to my health concerns (diabetes, heart disease and kidneys disease) and otherwise busy life, I have just let the matters go. But the more I think about these incidents, the more I think that there are probably many others who have had similar problems. For that reason, I have decided to post this to your web page.
I saw my doctor last month (March). She advised me to increase my glipizide (a diabetic drug) dosage to 1.5 pills in the morning, then take one with lunch and one with dinner. I had called my scripts in two days before the Easter weekend so I would have them before I went out of town to visit family. When I picked them up, I noticed I only had 75 pills. At first the pharmacist who answered the phone argued that the script was filled as written %u2013 but then she noticed I had been receiving 90 pills per month since 2009. I clarified that my doctor%u2019s orders had changed and that actually I needed 105 bills. (1/2 x 30 =15) I asked her to call the doctor%u2019s office to verify this. She called back and told me they would change my order and that my next order would be for 105 pills. I wanted them to give me the 30 extra pills and I was happy to pay the extra co-pay but she refused to do that. I have all my scripts fall on the same due day and budget accordingly for their payment. Since the pharmacy made the mistake, I feel they should have filled this order correctly to begin with and made it right for me and not do something for their own convenience.
Not only that, but they only gave me 51 test strips (2 x a day) and did not use my discount card. I explained that I have received 102 test strips each month since 2009 and that my doctor%u2019s orders had not changed. Kelly Gish told me my insurance company denied me my full order but I didn%u2019t believe it. I told her I needed a name, number, email etc of who at my insurance company told her this, and I told her that I or my doctor would appeal it. She then said she would call my Dr. To verify the script. She wanted me to take the 51 strips and come back for the rest, but I told her I wanted it done right and at the proper price! She gave me a refund, took the 51 strips, called the doctor and later that day, I picked up my strips at the proper price.
In the past, I have received partial prescriptions and had to come back for the rest or pick up the remainder of the script at another pharmacy. One time, the manager refused to fill a script for Lortabs. My husband had outpatient surgery in Wichita. We had been at the clinic from 6 A.M. To 6 P.M. The doctor told me to get the script filled before his anesthesia wore off. I wanted to get him home first, then run to WalMart to pick up some soft food and the script. I asked Ms Gish to call the doctor but she just flat refused to fill the script. Fortunately, the Dillons pharmacy across the street filled it with no problem.
Why do I still shop at WalMart. I like the store and its convenience. I like the prescription programs. I do not, however, like not getting my prescriptions in a timely manner, being refused service, or having them changed at whim. As I said, I do not think I am being singled out and I am certain others have had problems at one time or another. That is why I have written this.
