I was reported to the credit buro for $119.00 debt and handed over for collection. My problem: It was for pay as you go internet. I only received a sim (data card) from them and my understanding wat that I pay $50 a month for 4GB data. If I run out, I must top up online. If I do not use it I lose it and I must top up every month to receive a new 4GB for the paricular month. I did not sign a contract and my understanding was I pay as I need the service. Now where was I told that I had to give service notice. I stopped using the service as I took out cable service (TWC). I was not handed a copy of a contract or any paper documents and I did not sign a contract. The first time I realized that there was a problem was when my credit score dropped with 60 points. Then I saw a company with the name Cingular wireless reported me for $119.00. I first did not know who they are and only later learned it is AT%T. I was handed over to a debt collection company in Texas. This is the first time in my life that I heard that you can owe a wireless company on pay as you go. I did not receive any notice from them. They may have sent it to my old address, because they did not have my new address, because I was not under the impression that they need to be made aware of address changes on a pay as you go service or a signed contract. I am a Dutch immigrant to the USA and really worked hard to build a credit record and now it is busted. Even with my Dutch English I am sure I understood what I was buying. I have now paid the bill online, even believing That they are not entitled to the money and that this whole thing is a scam. I have seen that AT&t was involved in a class action law suit for a similar issue and settled the matter with the complainant. Even if there was something about a notice, how did a $50 montly budle became $119.00. At most it could have been $50.00. The other sad part is that I did not even use the service further when I runned out of GB, thinking that is the end of the story. If I knew I could at least got same satisfaction by using the GB so called owed to them in money. The online account number is 337043315239.
