My contract with Cingular I was sure had expired. My bill was totaling around $300 monthly (3 phones) so I switched to a company with a flat rate unlimited calls to save money. I called cingular and told them. They said I had to pay cancellation fees.
I asked for a copy of contract. Never got it. Next thing I got was a bill from collection agency demanding payment. I asked them to show me contract and never heard from them again. They put it on my credit report. When I called them they said to pay that day was only way to get it off. I paid by phone even though I didn't feel I owed anything and then they still refused to take it off. Said it would stay on for 7 years.
I found the parent company of cingular (SBC) and wrote to a higher up (email). He sent the letter around cingular (I have all forwards as the one that wound up with it forwarded it back to me) They then emailed me a copy of one contract (still billing me for three) and that contract was signed in my maiden name (long time ago although recently dated).
I told them tell me what I owe and get out of my life! I lost my home loan because of this. I'm still asking them to take it off my credit so that I can have the hope of getting the house but I get no response to that. They only respond to you when you ask how much you owe. They will give you that information quickly but they won't address the negative credit report.
The collection company of America (collecto), their credit collection agency, gave false and misleading information to get me to pay. They reported a debt without proving the debt after I asked them to and then lied and said they would take it off my credit and then later would not even speak with me about it by phone or address my letters.
