Consumer Report

My aunt was 'cold' called by a man named Bill Anderson who claimed to represent IDMAX - an ID theft and fraud protection company. He somehow knew she was receiving TONs of sweepstake solicitations. He kept using "trust me" in his patter and finally talked her into giving him her visa number. The next day she canceled the card but received a call from him in early January claiming that she owed them the $395 dollars and that they would slap a law suit against her if she didn't pay. She was frightened enough by his rude and threatening manner that she sent the check. She was clever enough have the post require a signature for delivery. She called IDMAX after post office notified her that the delivery was made and gave her proof of receipt signature. Bill answered the phone again and claimed they did not receive the check (he had been the one who signed the recipient)! She then received a packet with a letter that said she would be billed for future work on their part. I was so angry that today I called IDMAX around 1pm and Bill Anderson answered. He denied everything that my Aunt claimed. He claimed he never "cold called" her or threatened her. I warned him that any further contact with my aunt would result in an call from her attorney. I doubt she is done with him. I have her phone set up so she can record calls in case he calls again. It will give her attorney something to work with!
