I am over age 65 and during 2012 obtained Medicare supplemental health insurance with Anthem. I am a breast cancer survivor (since 1995) and under Medicare rules am entitled to one screening mammogram per year covered at 100%. Because of my history of breast cancer, I have to have a diagnostic mammogram but it is still my annual screening mammogram. When the claim was submitted to Anthem for payment, they denied 100% coverage and left me owing a balance of $100. This goes against Medicare rules. I appealed the claim, filed a complaint with Medicare but to no avail. I have a HISTORY of breast cancer and NEED my annual mammograms no matter what type of mammogram!!! I have now changed my coverage to a different company and my mammogram will now be covered at 100% as it has for almost 27 years now. What is wrong with ANTHEM??? This does not encourage anyone to continue with mammograms much less someone with a history of breast cancer.
I think this treatment was unkind, ignorant and disrespectful to me and to Medicare. They should be ashamed!!! Even my PCP was shocked. I will NEVER, EVER do any business with Anthem again.
