I am filing a grievance against ADT Security Services Inc., for Misrepresentation and Baiting and Switching.

I have a business in Oneida Tennessee and had ADT install an alarm system in both of my buildings. Shortly after installing the alarm system, we were having problems with one of the motion sensors in my back building. ADT promised several times that someone would be out to fix or replace it. That never happened. Since that time the alarm has been tripped many times causing the police to come out for no reason. To this date, which has been over a year and a half, no one has come from ADT and now they want to charge me approximately $200.00 for a service call.

Problem #2:
After having several items stolen from my store, I felt that we should have a video monitoring system installed. Again, I looked on the internet and one of the few companies to do that was ADT. I called them and told that I wanted a system installed as quickly as possible because I was loosing money. They assured me that someone would be out within a week. Three weeks later I called them again and asked when someone would be coming out. They apologized and said someone would be out within a week. Another three weeks went by and still No ADT. Again, I called and said what do I have to do to have someone come out? They gave me a local number and I called and told them the situation. They apologized and said someone would definitely be out within one week. After two weeks I called that office again and they said he is on his way and would be there in a couple days.
Finally a man showed up by the name of Corey T. Ham, who said that he was the Regional Security Executive and that he would now be handling my account and guaranteed that there would never be another problem. I showed Corey my showroom and also my work shop building in the back and he said that we could probably get by with 4 or 5 cameras. I told him that I wanted to start with four cameras and have the capability to expand to maybe six or more. He promised that the system he sold me would handle more than 4 cameras, so if I ever wanted to add a camera, all I had to do was pay for the extra camera. And he also said if you want another while they are installing the system, just ask the installer when he comes he would have an extra camera on his truck. Corey said that he would be here when the installer comes, in case there was a problem, and also in case he needed help. So I paid him the deposit of $825.00 on 9/7, check # 1328.
Well, they scheduled a date with me and never showed up. I called and said, “Where is the installer” they said he should be there within this week. Two weeks later, one installer showed up with out Corey. I asked the installer if Corey was coming and the installer said he knew nothing about it.
Then the installer walked around and said to me that he could not do the job because the ceilings were too high and that he needed a helper. So I said that’s why Corey was supposed to be here. I told the installer either install the system or cancel the whole contract. He huffed and puffed and called his supervisor and finally came back and said, where do you want the cameras? Again, had Corey been here as promised I would not have to take this guy on a tour of my property.

So, I showed him where I wanted the cameras and as he was installing the system, I told him that I might want an extra camera at the back door. He said that I was sold the wrong equipment and that I would now have to buy an upgraded 8channel receiver to add additional cameras. That would be a lot more money.
As you can see all of the lies and deceits that were made just to make a sale.
I told him that I was not happy and that I wanted Corey to get back here and explain why I can’t add more cameras as he promised. Nothing happened nor did I hear back from anyone. So I called again and they said their manager would come out and guaranteed to make everything right. When the manager came up from Knoxville, he said that there was nothing they could do and that I would have to pay for an UP graded 8 channel system. After all of the aggravation and frustration and arguing back and forth, I consented to pay more for another camera and an upgraded 8 channel.

It only got worse from here. The cameras that they installed were total garbage. You could not make out any persons face on the cameras. “What good is a security system if you can’t identify any persons that break in? ” They said that’s the way these cameras are, and that you are not going to get a better picture. Sorry, but every security system that I have seen you can identify the people. They said work with it and if I am not satisfied that they would move the cameras, change them or do what ever it takes to make me happy.
They gave me a final bill for the previous balance due plus the extra camera and the upgraded 8 channel. I paid them in full on 10/14 check # 1342 in the amount of $1325.00. Now I was into this security system for $2150.00. The cameras were low grade and did not do what they said it would. I called several times again to complain that I did not want this system and to return my money. They said that someone would come out to make everything right. Again, No one showed up. Months went by, still no answers and no resolution. I have a low quality garbage surveillance system and a faulty motion sensor on my building. Several months later they started calling me and asking for an additional $977.63. When I asked what this was for, they said it was for my initial deposit of $825.00 plus fees. I told them that I gave Corey the check and they said they don’t know what happened to him or the check.
Again, as you can feel my frustration, I told them to just take out the system and refund my money. “ I am done with ADT”!!
I have explained this to several people from their offices many times and I am now at the end of my rope. They are constantly threatening to discontinue my service if I didn’t pay them more money, and I keep telling them to take out all of the equipment and refund ALL of my money.
Now they have a collection agency harassing me. If this keeps up I will be contacting my attorney.
