I won a bid on Ubid for a laptop computer. I soon learned that the seeler was in Romania.
I wrote 3 e-mails to Ubid asking to verify the persons to make sure she was a legitimate seller. They never responded. 5 days later after several e-mail exchanges with the seller I wired her $1038 dollars.
Before doing this I checked UBIDS website. They stated in the website that they verify their sellers witha credit card, address and phone number. I decided to trust the seller and sent the money.
It turned out that the seller was a fraud witha fake ID. AND it turned out that UBID knew of this 4 days BEFORE I sent the money and AFTER they had received my e-mails asking about the seller. They actually had suspended her selling priviledges 4 days before I wired her the money.
They never called me, though they had my number OR e-mailed me to tell me that they had discovered she was fraud. If they had I would never had sent the money.
I finally received a generic e-mail response from them two weeks later. I called their corporate headquarters and they said "oops sorry for the mixup" and though they have a buyers protection policy up to $500.00 in cases of fraud for some reason this seller is not included in that protection and so I am out over $1000.00 and they refuse to make it right.
Use caution when buying at their auction sites because they will not make it good if you are frauded and they DO NOT verify the credit cards and address's before allowing people to sell on their site.
