Starting in June of my wife took her Compaq laptop in to Circuit City to be fixed. Somehow, the computer power cord failed to work after only 18 months of use. The jack in the back just gave out. At that time, they (Circuit City) told us that it would take 4-8 weeks to be fixed. After 4 weeks, they called to tell her that her computer was ready to be picked up. When we arrived at the store, they told us that it was a mistake and that nothing had been done and that it would be another eight weeks before the computer was fixed.
Weeks passed and we heard nothing from Circuit City. My wife made several attempts to contact them and we were always promised a return phone call. We rarely did. Finally, on one occasion when she was able to reach them, (in October now) they told her that her computer was gone because they just get rid of them after they have them for a certain amount of time. If you are in disbelief about this policy, imagine our anger.
We have my wife's PhD dissertation, my master's thesis, and other important personal and financial things saved on this computer. It is irreplacable and Circuit City hasn't even attempted to do that at this point. We are still waiting on one of their phone calls that probably will never happen. I would strongly recommend to any consumer in the market for any electrical appliances to NEVER shop at Circuit City. Their warranties are full of hollow promises, their customer service is non-existant, and they do not return phone calls.
