Hi:
I wanted to take the opportunity to make you aware of the imoms.com website, http://www.imoms.com. I got to this sight from a link on www.wahm.com (Work-at-home moms). Www.imoms.com describes an "opportunity" that can be executed from the home by stay-at-home moms. I am a stay-at-home dad, but I decided to inquire anyway.
After 5 years at a.com, I had been laid off of my job and prospects were slim. I checked the complaint website for IMOMS and found nothing. I filled out the contact information and was contacted almost immediately. The caller set up a conference call for a few days later. I agreed to attend.
Flashback to 1995:
The Medicare/Medicaid crisis had hit the medical industry and I was laid off of a job after the company I worked for lost it's contract in a local hospital. On the drive home I see a collegue at the 7-11 that tells me of an opportunity that he wants me to investigate. I assume he's talking about our mutual field of work. He invites me to a meeting at his house where his supervisor will be present. Thinking that It will be just him and I and his supervisor, and that we will be discussing an opportunity in our mutual line of work, I agree.
When I show up at the meeting, I see that there are several men and their wives, all dressed in nice suits and dresses. I was, as usual, in jeans and t-shirt. The living room is set up with chairs in rows. There must have been 20 people or so. Then after dinner, my collegues supervisor took the floor and began a long monologue of superfical sales-a-riffic hype.
In the middle of the monologue, I hear the word Amway somewhere tucked neatly in the middle of a sentence. I immediately shoot up out of my chair and state, "I am sorry, but I think I am in the wrong place. I thought you had a legitimate opportunity in the medical field."
As I fled from mayhem, my collegue followed me to my car. He was apologetic, yet held to the claim that he had made me aware that the opportunity was Amway from the beginning. That's where he lost a good friend.
I admit that I am not perfect. I have never been perfect and I will never be perfect. I have even done some things to hurt friends and family in the past. The difference between these transgressions and my friend's is that I will almost always come around in my thinking and admit my wrong and seek to correct it. My collegue never did. You might think, "No harm, no foul. Right?" Not so. My friend and I were involved in a profession where honesty and integrity are given the highest priority. He pulled this scheme on several other collegues as well and ruined his reputation in the field.
FLASHFORWARD TO TODAY:
I am sitting by my phone waiting for the 10:00 conference call suspecting that this opportunity that IMOMS has for me is indeed the same type of opportunity that I have seen over and over again. I am thinking, "Why do I do this to myself? I know what the outcome is going to be."
The representative calls at exactly 10:00am. Soon people from all over the country are calling into the teleconferncing system. Finally, the call is joined by a jargon-slinging hypestress whose tounge moves with trance-inducing expertise. This time the company is Melaleuca. Again, I revisit the complaint website. Bang! A hit! In fact, several hits. But wait a minute. Wasn't I seeking an opportunity with something called IMOMS? Where did Melaleuca came in? Where am I? Am I back in my collegue's living room? I yell out for my representative, "I am sorry, but I think I am in the wrong place. I thought you had a legitimate opportunity."
I know my personality type and this is not me. I admit that I am not perfect. I have never been perfect and I will never be perfect. I have even done some things to hurt friends and family in the past. The difference between these transgressions and the transgression of the person on the line is that I will almost always come around in my thinking and admit my wrong and seek to correct it. The people who offer these "opportunities" will never do this. They have the capacity for goodness and honesty, but they have been blinded by their motivation for wealth, power, and an easier way.
What i have learned (again):
1. Any opportunity worth following will always state the business name and purpose clearly in it's advertisement. If there is any ambiguity, it's not worth your time.
2. Any opportunity worth following will always follow normal labor and human resource procudure (ask for a resume rather than a credit/debit card).
3. Any opportunity worth following will be tough. Anything that promises that you will make money easy is a lie. Work is hard and meant to be hard. Hard work pays.
4. Any opportunity worth following will not require that you purchase its products. I have been involved in the workforce for some 20 years and have never been required to purchase my company's products.
5. Any opportunity worth following will investigate you as much as you investigate them. Do you really want to work for someone that doesn't care about your background?
6. Any opportunity that fails to be totally clear about the identity of it's products, does not follow normal hr procedures, promises big money, requires that you purchase it's products, and doesn't seem to care who you are and what your work history is about, is illegitimate. Do not follow these leads.
As for those who will rebut:
I am aware that the people that you work for ask you to check this and other sites occasionally to rebut. Say what you will. Eventually your deception will catch up with you.
