Rebate ripoff, Long and short, I was screwed and lost $100. Baltimore

I purchased a computer package which included a MAG monitor and Lexmark printer. Each item was to have a $50 rebate.

I sent in all of the required information for the rebates within a week of my purchase. A month later I got a notice from Lexmark telling me that my proof of purchase was wrong. So I re-sent it and said that it was the only proof of purchase on the box. They sent it back again saying it was incorrect.

I called the rebate center and the rep I spoke to told me that the proof of purchase needs to have 5 scan codes. The one I sent in only had 4. I told her that it was the ONLY proof of purchase on the box and what should I do?

She told me to go to the store that I purchased the item from and check the boxes of the same item in the store to see if the proof of purchases have 5 scan codes. If they do not, I need to get someone from Best Buy to contact the rebate center with me to verify that there were only 4 on the proof of purchase of all of their boxes for that same product. This needed to be done during business hours. I work a full time job, I would need to take off of work to do this. She said if the boxes at the store have 5 scan codes on the proof of purchase, than it would be up to the manager of the store to decide whether or not he would exchange the printer.

Luckily I still have the box for the printer. However, I do not have the time to take off of work to resolve this issue. The rebate offer has also expired by now.

I never received any information back regarding the monitor. So I called regarding the rebate on that item. They told me the same thing. The proof of purchase that I sent in was incorrect. I never even received notification from them. So not only have I not received the original proof of purchase that I sent to them back, but I already threw away the box for the monitor and the offer has expired.

Long and short, I was screwed and lost $100. This is a major rip off and I will never purchase anything from Best Buy again.
