My wife and I wanted to get internet service at home. We saw the commercials that stated no home service was required. I called and was told that in order to get the internet service I wanted, I had to have a phone. Then I was told I HAVE to have long distance service in order to get my rebate.
First they totally screwed up the installation. They gave us internet for 4 days then took it back. Keep in mind they called and told us it was ok to set it up that day and talked us through the installation process!!! Then on Monday it went away. First thing they said was that our cord was too long and if we wanted to put another jack in they were going to have to charge us 125 for installation. I got mad and hung up. When I cooled off I called back and they said they couldn't help us because we weren't supposed to have internet till the following day... HUH?
Now we get the first bill... 65.00... Ok, that sounds like a prorated bill since they said it would be 78.00 per month. 24.99 of that was internet and the remaining was phone and taxes. We paid it and asked about why the rebate site would not recognize our number..."Oh we can set that up for you now on the phone and someone will call withing 48 hours to confirm" Still waiting for that call a week and a half later.
Now comes the second bill...$113 and change. I called about the bill and was told that I have to pay 42.99 per month for 3 months before the special internet rate takes effect WHAT? No one mentioned this when I ordered my service. That is the most absurd billing plan I have ever heard of.
Now my wife works from home on the internet, so I have to have my service. Cancellation is not an option. I live in a city with city utilities, so Comcast is not an option. I don't mind paying for my service, but it seems to me that AT&T is getting away with a lot of unethical practices. Something needs to be done!
