I took my computer into Simply Laptops in February of this year. It was supposedly tested by one of their technicians who in turn proceeded to fry the motherboard.
When I brought the computer in it was working but had problems. I took this to the supposed Owner of the company and found out that it is owned by a Non-profit supposedly "Christian" ministry. When I tried to resonably resolve the issue with the so-called CEO, Jeff, I was threatened with physical violence and legal action by complaining to him and seeking advice on a consumer advocate radio show.
I didn't use the name of the company on the radio show but was threatened by Jeff with legal action by even speaking to someone in a venue that could slander about the company. I currently Attend DeVry and was recommended to this company by other students.
I have since told both my instructors and fellow students to not patronize this company and have referred them to a number of other companies in the area that do infinitely better work and customer service.
I was later aproached by an employee who was working there in April and was informed found that this is standard procedure by the company. They take in sick computers and are told by Jeff and the "Senior Tech" Tony to take out good parts if they are available. Replace with bad ones and then tell the customer that when the diagnostics were completed that they have all sorts of things wrong with them and attempt to get the customer to get the customer to buy things that weren't originally broken. Since I'm not an expert in computer repair I couldn't tell my self. All I know is that my computer was limping when I brought it in and when I got it back it was totally fried.
I have since acquired a new laptop from my school as a loaner. I'm still out over $1,000 for a laptop. It's pretty disusting that a company that is run by people who call themselves "christian" are anything but.in fact I'd call Jeff a bully and Tony a con-man. There are other things going on with this company but since I don't have first hand experience with them so I see no need to elaborate here. The other employees seemed to want to help but anytime Jeff and Tony are around they would stop speaking to me immediately. It was only when I bumped into the employee at a local store that I got the scoop on what was going on in this place.
In summary Simply Laptops and Nerds on Demand should be called Simply Ripoffs and Crooks on Demand!
