I became aware of PayPal accounts in which my Social Security Number is linked that I had nothing to do with. My one and only PayPal account has been blocked because of these other 2 accounts, and when I ask for information, citing the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am told they cannot give me any more information. A summary of the emails follows.
In the first email, dated Friday, November 6, PayPal said it was unable to verify my Social Security number, which may have occurred because my name or address had recently changed or because they have a slightly different spelling of my name or address in their database. To complete the verification process, they asked me to fax or mail a copy of the email received, proof of my address (a current utility bill or a copy of a driver's license, with the address matching the one on file with the PayPal account), and a copy of my social security card or a current pay stub. They said the process may take up to a week. Below that was an earlier reply from a PayPal representative, who said that after reviewing my account, the debit card was denied due to no SSN on the PayPal account, and that one of the new requirements for the debit card is to have your SSN confirmed to your account. In my original message I had asked why I was being denied a PayPal debit card after having one previously and losing it. In my message, I also said that it would not allow me to add my Social Security number.
In the second email, from Debit Card Support on Sunday, November 15, PayPal said it is currently unable to issue me a debit card due to outstanding accounts that will need to be reviewed and resolved before they can review my debit card application. It said I should have received an email prior to that one regarding the additional steps that need to be resolved. It also gave a phone number, 1-888-221-1161, and steps to follow if I feel there has been an error in their evaluation of my request.
