On June 12 or the 13th I went on my laptop computer and found supposedly that I had 40 some odd viruses on my computer. Witabett popped up on my computer offering antivirus software, so believing I had several viruses on my computer, I downloaded the software and ran it and supposedly it deleted the viruses off my computer. The amount of $79.90 was charged to my credit card and I thought all was fine.
Then a couple days ago I came onto my computer to run the antivirus software to find that it was gone along with a confirmation email of the purchase. I went onto my credit card site and looked up my online statement to find the charge and the name of the company to contact them. I called the phone number provided with the charge on my credit card statement and it didn't introduce the company all it stated was to contact aquabilling.com to apply for a refund.
I tried sending an email to aquabilling.com and it was returned to me as undeliverable.By this point I was already suspecting I had scammed and sure enough I was. I typed in Witabett.com and found this very website with the statement that others had been scammed by this pretend company.
I am in the process of trying to get the charge refunded to me through my credit card company and I am afraid that I will be a victim of identity theft. I plan on disabling anything online that I have that could show account numbers to my credit cards and bank accounts.
Again, I am very fearful of becoming a victim of identity theft and plan to take action to prevent that from happening.
I hope everyone who uses the internet becomes aware of this scam and take precautions to prevent this from happening to you.
