This guy is a Russian immigrant now living in the US (that is what he claims). His name is Vyacheslav, and he says he has legally changed it to SLY. He recently opened a project on Getafreelancer.com (# 469530) for development of a completely new Joomla template and transfer of his existing website (slytek.com) to a Virtuemart powered e-commerce site on JOOMLA platform. He selected my bid of $300 and there was an agreement before the commencement of the work.
Among other things, I was asked to create a custom Joomla template from scratch, a logo, transfer of more than 200 products/descriptions/images etc from his existing site to the new one, a google checkout module (worth $40), SEO optimization etc etc.
Well, I started work on the project and really dedicated all my time into it. I even tried to hire a top artist in my country to do the logo, for which this guy was very happy and said he would pay a bonus. I even went further than was required by the project and customized the virtuemart designs as well.
I was able to finish almost 90% of the project in 10 days. Except for few technical matters, the site was fully operational and I informed the person that I would upload the site on his server to let him check/review the site himself so that he could be certain of the build and suggest any modifications/adjustments. I uploaded all files/extensions for the site but could not upload the actual template files because I remembered few issues that had to be sorted first. As it was already very late, I went to sleep deciding I would upload the files the very first hour next morning.
The next day, I checked my mail and I had received a mail from this guy. Contrary to his previous friendly demeanour, the mail was written in very aggrresive manner and had made statements that was contrary to all our earlier agreements. He was laying accusations one after another on me. He claimed he and his wife had checked the codes/php of the template on his server and had found that I had copied all the codes from another site and the template was just a tweak of other sites, when in fact I had not even showed him the template files so far. I had not uploaded the template files the previous night and yet he was claiming he had checked the template??? Furthermore, he was telling me to close the project and that he would not pay me anything and then threatened me a negative feedback on my work record if I didn't do so. He also said that he already had an Indian guy working for him who can deliver much better work and charged far less. However, he was claiming earlier that I was the first and only person he was working offshore with. He even went on to say that he was a very good JOOMLA professional himself and that he was capable of developing a custom JOOMLA template in 5 minutes.
I knew where this was going and I told him I was reporting the matter to getafreelancer.com; which I did. Then he started becoming even more abusive and became very personal as to make disparaging remarks about my nationality. He said he would not pay anything at all. AND HE HAS NOT PAID ME YET.
