I was looking for Employer Information Number registration online and went to the site www.gov-tax.com. Big Mistake. I thought they were a government agency and filled out their form with all my personal information including my SS#.
After submitting my info I came to the payment page (yikes!) and realized I'd been duped - I knew this should be a free service and there is no mention of a fee on this site until after all personal info is submitted.
I checked the site more carefully (fine print) and saw that they are not government affiliated in any way. I wonder if they now have all my personal information. That's even worse than trying to charge for a free service. I will be much more careful from now on. This time I learned the hard way what it means to get duped online.
