I was unemployed earlier this year and looking on craigslist for jobs. I was contacted by one "employer" in February who said in order to proceed with the hiring process I would have to get a credit check, then asked me to obtain a "free" credit report from creditreportamerica. I was under the impression I would only be charged $1 to my card in order to obtain the credit check and thats it. Little did I know it was a scam which not only charged me $11.95 a month but also signed me up for two other "services" which charged me about $15 a month. This went on for several months until now (late april) when I noticed my credit card bill was higher than I thought it would be. So I spoke to my credit card company and found out I was being charged by these disreputable companies monthly for three months for a total of about $80.
I was advised by my bank (Chase) to call the companies and cancel and ask them to refund my money. Two of the scammers gave me a partial refund as a "courtesy" but one gave no refund whatsoever. I then contacted Chase and am now filing a claim with Chase to attempt to obtain the rest of the money that they refused to refund me. If that doesnt work I am interested in talking and networking with other victims of this scam and possible class action.
