Consumer Fraud Sells Created As Genuine, Plated As Solid Gold

I have been buying from bidz.com for over a year now. Many items are good and as advertised. The problem is the many that are not.

One ring I purchased had a listed 9.10ct Genuine Ruby. I took it for appraisal and after much testing and scoping the senior appraiser was positive it was, in fact, lab created.

I emailed and called bidz and received the usual canned reply that they only accept returns for 15 days after purchase. Apparently, like with many emails, they did not even read my concern as I specifically stated that I was not interested in returning the item at that point.

After several emails and phone calls I decided to file a consumer fraud report with the FTC. At that point bidz offered to pick up the ring and have it examined by their gemologist. After over three weeks it was returned to me and I had it looked at again by the same appraiser. The measurements were different and the inclusions were different but he was satisfied the new stone was natural.

Without a doubt bidz had the stone replaced to cover up. My problem with this is with all the other "genuine" gemstones I have purchased.

Smaller rings I have purchased that were listed as "genuine" I only recently was able to test with a Presidium Gem Tester. They don't even move the needle.

Recently purchased a pair of two-tone 14k gold earrings. Received them and the rose gold was peeling off and metal underneath rough black. At the hinge the white gold was badly pitted as though they had been roughly worn and handled for a long time. At first they were going to charge me 15% restocking fee as they were found to be "as described" but after letting them know I had taken pictures for proof they gave me full refund.

I can't count how many times I have received items with stones missing, broken prongs and extremely poor stone quality - nothing like the picture or the diamond clarity/color grade. If the item is returned for poor overall quality they charge 15% every time. I figure if I want my money back it would be best to destroy/damage an item but haven't been able to bring myself to do so - yet!

With only a 15 day refund policy I have lost hundreds of dollars in having stones replaced after that time period. A ring worn for two weeks should not be losing stones but after that I am just out of luck.

With bidz.com all I can say is - BUYER BEWARE! If you want something special and lasting go to a reputable jeweler where you can see the item in person and they stand behind their pieces.
