EARTHLINK - worst internet company - unethical practices Pasadena

Signed up for DSL from Earthlink after many calls from telemarketers. Got all the hypes and promises, none of which came true. Basically, no service. They sent techs out to my house every week that performed the same tests over and over again. It would have been comical if it didn't happen to me. Same test and the same comments "we need to investigate this further at the phone company and we'll be back next week." Next week, same dumb test, they connect a phone to the jack to see if they hear dial tone. I called their tech line repeatedly with the same answers, "we need to test it at the phone company, it's their equipment that's faulty." At one point, Earthlink techs determined I needed to purchase a bunch of additional equipment that they don't cover. I purchased them and still, no service. I even asked the tech to do something more than just listen for dial tone as I was extremely irritated that I have to waste an entire day waiting for them every week only to have them listen for dial tone. The tech replied with "what do you want me to do?"

I was billed this entire time. I talked to their customer service that assured me they would credit me (no refund) but I never saw a credit. One month, I got billed twice. This went on for nearly 7 months as I was under contract.

Apparently, no service doesn't void the contract, according to Earthlink customer service. Finally, after a heated conversation, Earthlink told me that I had to rewire my house and that would fix the problem (the added equipment they told me to buy was apparently just for fluff). Until this point, I was assured repeatedly that they would cover all costs required to get DSL working for me and credit me for the equipment I purchased at their recommendation. None of it happened. Apparently, all costs to Earthlink means 'just as long as they don't have to pay for any of it.' I'm grateful to the last tech who came to see me as he determined that I would not be able to receive DSL as is and Earthlink would have to cover costs to replace whatever it was he had determined needed to be replaced (he was a contractor for Earthlink). Earthlink canceled my DSL contract immediately.

Now it was the battle to get my money back for that period. They of course didn't. They said I would get credit and I explained to them "for what? I don't have DSL and I'm certainly not planning to do further business after the nightmare they put me through." By the way, the credit card company was absolutely no help at all throughout this ordeal or after it. After several months of bull, Earthlink told me that I've had an open account all this time and I've used up my credit even though I never used their service.

The thing that enrages me the most is the fact that I still get calls and mail from Earthlink asking me to come back and promises of reliable DSL. Take me off your contact list Earthlink!!!
