Don't purchase a DVD-ROM player from LiteOn expecting you're going to get a DVD player for your XP computer, because you won't.
It comes with a CD-ROM software disk from Nero, based in Germany. This does not include the software needed to play a DVD. For that you have to pay $20 online to get a plug-in. You get an email confirming that they've taken your $20, as well as a link where you can download the software.
Guess what? You're not downloading anything.
After trying for a few hours the next step is to contact 'customer service' for a refund. They've made it impossible to contact anything resembling actual 'customer service' except by posting messages to their site. Naturally, they automatically list any and all complaints as 'resolved', including those which haven't been resolved.
They refer you to their 'other' customer service at asknet.com. Guess what? They're useless, except that they do provide a number to Nero's "customer service" in California, which is 818-956-7551, where you will receive a message referring you to their Technical Support Number (at $1.29 per minute), over and over again.
After a few hours of that you'll give up. It's not known whether there's really anything there but an answering service that puts you on hold.
It's a great scam.
And so far they're getting away with it.
